Performance Data

The AquaLiv Water System has demonstrated an ability to remove a large number of contaminates. The performance data provided in the downloadable document below is based on the original non-fluoride model. However, fluoride removal is now standard equipment.

Note: The system was tested under its former name "AquaLiv HOME". Although the system is now named "The AquaLiv Water System", the system design is the same.

Fluoride Information

If you have a fluoridated water supply, it is highly recommended that you remove this proven harmful contaminate.

Fluoride is difficult to remove, so most purification brands avoid mentioning it. Standard purification methods, such as Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and Carbon Blocks, will NOT remove fluoride. This includes all PUR, Brita, Aquasana, etc. type filters on the market.

Outside of Distillation and Reverse Osmosis, both of which also remove ALL beneficial trace minerals, there are two primary ways to remove Fluoride. Activated Alumina and BC-Carbon.

Activated Alumina
Activated Alumina is the most commonly used fluoride removal media today. This media is essentially granulated or powdered aluminum (aluminum oxide) that is preconditioned with chemicals. It is generally quite effective at removing fluoride, but is a toxic compound in its own right. In fact, if you are considering any filter system with Activated Alumina, be sure the system has KDF media DOWNSTREAM of the Activated Alumina. This will offer some level of protection when Alumina makes its way into your water, as it will. You can expect a greater than 90% removal of Fluoride with Activated Alumina.

Bone-Char Carbon
BC-Carbon has been used for centuries (ancient Egypt) to remove naturally occurring fluoride from water, although most companies have never heard of it. In addition to being little known, BC-Carbon is not more widely used because it only removes Fluoride to greater than 70%. This is because BC-Carbon also likes to bond with heavy metals. We have found this limitation can be overcome by removing most contaminates, including heavy metals, BEFORE water reaches the BC-Carbon, in addition to using more of it. In properly designed systems, you can also expect to achieve a greater than 90% removal of Fluoride with BC-Carbon.
